What is a Study?
A single research project
A Study is a project-level container within a Workspace, representing a single research project carried out by a research unit. The purpose of a Study is to group all the project’s omics data, sample metadata, Analysis Projects and output results, along with supplementary files, under a common scientific context.A traceable analytical record of your research
Studies keep analyses connected to the data and cohorts they use, along with the parameters and configurations that produced the research outputs. This makes results easier to understand, trace, and reproduce over time. Anyone joining the project can quickly see what has already been done and continue from the existing work, without being hampered by missing context or undocumented steps.Navigating and managing Studies within a Workspace: the Studies Dashboard

Cosmos-Hub 2.0 will soon support control access and sharing of Studies at the scope of the single Workspace.
Create a new Study
- Inside a workspace, click on ”+ New Study” in the top-right corner of the interface to set up study details.
- Choose a name for the new study, set Study Sharing permissions [Feature in active development] and add a Study description to provide context about the study

- Once created, the new Study will appear on the Study Dashboard
Searching and filtering the Study Dashboard

- Show Filters: displays dynamic filters below the column names in the Studies List. Use these filters to search within specific study metadata columns by entering text or numbers.
- Manage Columns: toggle study metadata columns to be displayed from the list of workspaces.
- Full screen: expands the Workspaces List to full-screen mode, making it easier to review, filter, and manage large lists of workspaces.
Managing Studies
Select the study to edit by clicking the checkbox next to its name. Once a study is selected, the row is highlighted and the action buttons become available above the Study list.
Renaming a Study
Select a single study and click on Rename to change its name.Deleting a Study
Be careful when deleting a Study: it’s permanent and cannot be undone. All associated data, settings, and results will be removed.
Copying a Study [Feature in active development ]
Select a single study and click on Copy to copy it into another workspace.Adding Tags to Studies [Feature in active development]
Select a single study and associate Study Tags for easy searching.Inside a Study: the Study Dashboard
Enter a Study by clicking on its name. The content of a study is the Study Dashboard, which provides access to all the assets contained within the study:
- Analysis Projects: The default tab lists the Analysis Projects (APs) already created in this study. Search by name, filter, and switch between card, list and column layouts with the view controls above the list.
Each card shows when the analysis was created and by whom, its current status, and the analysis modules it contains as short codes. Click Open to view it in the Analysis Studio. The star marks an analysis as a favourite, and the checkbox selects it for bulk actions.
- Data Tables: Shows the feature tables imported into the Study, with one table for each feature type. A table may contain taxonomic, functional, or metabolomic data, with samples arranged in rows and features in columns.

- Metadata: a table viewer to inspect Study sample metadata of the Data Tables [Feature in active development]
- File Browser: a Study-level storage drive for any other relevant Study documentation, such as supplementary files, raw sequencing files, protocols, lab notes and Analysis Project outputs.

- Jobs: an interface to track the operations currently running in the study, including data imports, analysis projects. Use it to check whether an import has finished or an analysis has completed before opening either.
Each row lists the job name, its current status, a short message describing the outcome, and when it started and was last updated. Sort by any column, or search by name to find a specific job.
